Daniel is perhaps one of my greatest heroes. He was a young boy faced with the very best excuses for failure and self-pity that any individual might ever face. He was forcefully removed from his family, his friends, his country and his culture, by enemies who only valued his good looks and strong young body. He had previously  flourished in the care of a Jewish noble family, where tradition, religion and community meant everything. And yet, with everything taken from him, in the face of captivity and slavery, Daniel rises to the top. What I admire about him is how he got there.
